So much has happened since the last time I blogged...and too be honest, at this point in the game, who has time for blogging? Anyway, let's recap the events in the past week. Yes, we will be lacking in some of the details. So, here we go....
Tuesday, May 4 - 5:45 am - Yes, I was awake for some reason at that time of the morning doing some emailing for work. This is the time that my water broke. Now for someone who has never been pregnant before this was an experience. I called the hospital and talked to the doctor on call. He told me to come on into the hospital. Now, keep in mind that we were supposed to check into the hospital until 5:00 that evening but Jackson decided to get a head start on things. So, I called Ray, who has only been at work for about 30 minutes and told him he needed to return home. He was in somewhat of a hurried state of mind when he came home. When he came home to get me, he was frantically trying to get things together and I told him we were leaving until I put on make-up and tried to do something with this thing on my head I call a hair-do. Well, we arrived at the hospital around 7:00 and settled in for the duration of the day. My nurse that stayed with me until 7:00 that night was wonderful. She got to know everything about all of us in that 12 hour time period. I am sure she had some stories to tell her husband that night. Anyway, contractions had already started prior to us coming in that morning but I didn't realize it. After about 4 hours of being asked, are you sure you don't need an epidural?, I requested one around noon. It seems that we have determined just exactly how high of a pain tolerance I do have. I guess I never realized it. Well, the epidural kicked in and I kept making jokes about having no legs to work with. I could not even help the nurse move me up in the bed or turn over. It became quite hilarious. So, Ray, mother, Mary Kay, Mary, Joyce, and Buck spent a good portion of the day in the labor and delivery room with me with the exception of the times they were run out into the hall by the doctor or nurse to save what little dignity I had left at the point. When I became fully dilated and the time push came, the nurse ask everyone to go to family waiting and Ray remained with me. Aunt Glyn showed up later and she stayed in there with us for the duration. After a couple of hours, the doctor determined that my body just would not allow for Jackson to be born naturally without hurting my bone structure or injuring Jackson. So, we after talking to Dr. B., we determined the safest thing would be to have a c-section. So, Jackson was born at 7:53 pm that evening. The c-section was quite an experience for me seeing as how my body didn't exactly respond very well to the epidural and additional medicine they had used. My fever rose some and I had the shakes so bad that I could not catch my breath and my eyes were watering like crazy. I could not carry on any kind of conversation. Ray was in the OR with me and I think he was a little freaked out by my shaking condition as well as everything else. He told me later that the doctor looked as though she was going to have to climb up on the table to get Jackson out because his head was wedged down around my pelvis and his feet were wedged up near my chest. After several pulls, she was about to get him out. To explain how long he was at that time, when she pulled on him for the last time, I felt his feet come out from under my chest. It took my breath away. And at that point I think it freaked Ray out. We then moved back to my labor and delivery to wait the ride to my room on the second floor. It was around 9:30 in the evening when we got settled into the room and several people came up to see him. I was hooked to a morphine drip which was nice at first but then I started feeling like I was on another planet. I finally told the nurse to get rid of it by the next morning. We got no sleep during the first night. I think we were so keyed up from the day's events that we were unable to do anything but sit. I was high on that morphine and my mom was probably getting a big kick out of the way I was acting. Not to mention the fact that those nurses love to come in about every 2 hours to do something to one of us so no sleep was gotten that night.
Wednesday, May 5: After that long sleepless night, I was like some kind of zombie all day and that morphine carried over through most of the day. I was so groggy that I could barely keep a decent conversation going or keep my eyes open for that matter. Jackson had lots of visitors today...MK, Amanda, Jodie, The Joyners, Bro. James, Ashley, Amy M., and Beth. This particular day was fun getting to visit with our friends and family but we were exhausted because of the lack of sleep from the previous day.
Thursday, May 6: This was a quiet day at the hospital. My grandparents came to visit us and my dad stopped by on his way home to see us as well. On this particular day, I got caught by the nurse saying to Jackson, "Do you think we can sneak out of here today? Maybe we could sneak out unnoticed."
Friday, May 7: Dr. B. came in first thing in the morning, apologized for waking me up, and asked me if I wanted to go home today or wait until in the morning. I very quickly woke up and said, "I am ready to go home right now." She laughed and said that would be fine. So, we gathered up our belongings, saw Jackson's doctor, and headed home. Boy was it nice to be home when we finally go in and settled. Queenie was so excited and wanted to check Jackson out and give him lots of kisses on his little head. She sniffed and sniffed all over him. It was so funny. We had a pretty good afternoon and night.
Saturday, May 8: We had a house full of company today. Daddy brought Mee Maw, Paw Paw, Tyler and Jamie up from Atmore to eat lunch and visit for several hours. Jodie and Drew stopped by to hold Jackson. Uncle David, Aunt Kathleen, Matthew, and Sara stopped by to visit as well. Later in the evening, Uncle Rex and Aunt Glyn stopped by and brought a yummy peanut butter and chocolate cake. It was a very busy day for us. We were extremely tired by the end of the day.
Sunday, May 9: Mother's Day!!! My first mother's day!! Too cool!! I spent the day at home with Jackson while Ray worked. Ray and Jackson gave me a beautiful diamond ring for mother's day - I was completely surprised. Good job guys!!
Monday, May 10: We spend the day at home trying to catch up on some rest that we have missed out on during our stay at the hospital.
Tuesday, May 11: Our first outing - to the doctor's office for our first visit. Well for starters we attempted to get there on time but we were 10 minutes late because Jackson decided to pitch a fit about the car seat but I think it was because there were too many people trying to help get him in the car seat. He was just tired of everyone looking at him and I bet he was wondering, "just how many people does it take to help me get into the car seat?" So, we had to start over - I ended up asking everyone else to go away and Jackson and I were able to get the car seat under control and we were on our way. The doctor visit was great. He did wonderful. The doctor said that he has gained 10 ounces, so he is by no means have trouble with loosing weight. He is eating close to what a 2 month old would eat, so yes, we have a little pig on our hands.
Wednesday, May 12: I had my first outing without Jackson today. I was able to get a ride from MK (since I am still unable to drive) to the beauty shop and get my hair colored and cut. When I returned home, we packed up Jackson and took him over to the nursing home to see his great-great grandmother. We had a friend of mine come out and make a 5 generation picture with him, me, mother, granddaddy, and grandmother. For me, it was a special day.
Thursday, May 13: Another quiet day at home.
Friday, May 14: WHAT A DAY!!!! Jackson's tummy decided that it didn't agree with the formula he had been on since day 1. He fussed and carried on all day. He didn't sleep unless one of us was holding him. By the evening hours, he was screaming his head off. I called the doctor to see exactly what formula to try. What a fiasco that was!!! That doctor was about the rudest person I have ever talked to. I know that next time, rather than having to talk to her, I will just call my vet - he would be more helpful than she was. Unfortunately, Jackson's doctor was not on call. So, we have him on some different formula that seems to be working fine. I just hope I am not speaking too soon.
